Do You Have Battery Charging Issues?
Hello eBike Riders!
We understand that dealing with eBike battery charging issues can be a hassle, so we’ve put together this guide to help you understand and address some common problems.
1. Understanding Your eBike Battery
Our most popular eBike battery is the 48v battery. This battery is crafted from 13 series packs of 7 parallel wired Samsung cells. But what does this mean? Simply put, it’s a powerful and durable battery designed to keep your eBike running smoothly.
2. Evaluating Your Battery Charge
When assessing your eBike battery’s charge, timing and temperature are crucial factors. It’s important to consider how long you wait after charging before checking the battery’s status, as well as the temperature at which the battery has been measured. These variables can significantly impact your battery’s performance and longevity.
3. The Role of the Battery Management System (BMS)
The BMS is a safety feature in your eBike battery that cuts off the charge at 4.3v per cell. Your charger, on the other hand, should cease charging once the voltage threshold of 4.2v is reached and the charge current the battery is accepting has dropped to around 3%. This process is generally about 99% accurate, but there might be slight differences between chargers.
4. Understanding Resting Voltage
Once charged, each battery naturally loses a small amount of charge until it reaches a ‘resting voltage’. For the cells in our eBike batteries, this resting voltage is between 4.10v and 4.20v. Several factors can affect the actual resting voltage, including the current at which the charger stopped charging, the battery’s age, how many times it has been charged, and environmental conditions.
The ‘Battery University’ website provides a helpful graph showing this drop-off in charge over time. This graph also demonstrates what happens when you ‘top up’ the charge.
Conclusion
Understanding how your eBike battery works and how to properly charge and maintain it will help you get the most out of your battery’s lifespan and performance. Remember, if you’re ever unsure or need assistance, our customer service team is always here to help. Ride on, eBikers!
