The Bafang BBS01B is the perfect assistance kit. Get up any hill and wave goodbye to the wind. It offers pedal assistance and a throttle. With 80Nm of torque, don’t compare this to a shop bought eBike – it’s going to be far more powerful.
It is a cadence sensing motor. With this motor, you can set your desired level of assistance, and for each pedal rotation, the motor will deliver the designated amount of power. The Bafang motor provides a choice of either five or nine different modes to select from, allowing you to customise your level of assistance.

The Bafang BBS01B 250W mid drive electric bike motor conversion kit is UK road legal (without installing a throttle). It provides powerful torque, high efficiency and low noise levels. Please read our fitting guide here.
The motors are waterproofed for normal UK use. In other words they are fine with rain, frost, snow and mud. However they are not designed to be submerged in water.
Key information:
- 15 amp controller (built into drive system) with upgraded IRFB3077 mosfets (i.e. reliable)
- Cadence sensing, not torque sensing.

Can I fit this myself?
Connection between battery and motor will require soldering. These motors are supplied with bullet connectors and our batteries are supplied with XT90 connectors, you will receive the corresponding XT90 connector with your battery. Changing the connector will NOT invalidate your warranty.
If you require tools to take off your bottom bracket, pedal cranks and maybe split your chain, follow this link to purchase all of the tools. You will also require a fitting wrench which you can add as an option (above).
Can I fit a 48V battery?
No – the Bafang BBS01B 250W 36V Mid Drive Electric Bike Motor is designed for a 36V battery.
Will this motor fit my bike?
The Bafang BBS01 is designed to fit bikes with a bottom bracket of between 67mm and 73mm. The inner diameter of the bottom bracket should be 33.5mm. Most modern bikes sold in the UK meet this standard (but please check). We have a bottom bracket guide here.
What are the (optional) gear sensor and hydraulic brake cutouts for?
The gear sensor helps achieve smoother gear changes by pausing the motor during shifts. The kit includes brake levers for cable brakes, but with hydraulic brakes or integrated gear-brake units, you need to attach brake sensors. These sensors stop the motor when braking to prevent conflict with the brakes.
