Bafang BBS02 500W Mid Drive Motor Kit – Choice of Screen
The BBS02B 500W is perfect for those wanting to convert an existing 36V 250W bike to a more powerful 500W bike. Alternatively, if the BBS01b 250W is not powerful enough, but the BBS02b 750W is too much, this motor offers a compromise.
The Bafang BBS02 500W mid-drive motor is not legal for on road use.
It is a cadence sensing motor. With this motor, you can set your desired level of assistance, and for each pedal rotation, the motor will deliver the designated amount of power. The Bafang motor provides a choice of either five or nine different modes to select from, allowing you to customise your level of assistance.
Please note that this kit is for the motor, screen, throttle, speed sensor and wiring harness.

The Bafang 500w 36V BBS02B Mid Drive Motor Kit is a popular motor for those wanting a bit less power than the BBS02 750W.

The motors are waterproofed for normal UK use. In other words they are fine with rain, frost, snow and mud. However they are not designed to be submerged in water.
This is available in 48v and 36v versions.
Key information:
- 18 amp controller (built into drive system) with upgraded IRFB3077 mosfets (i.e. reliable)
- Cadence sensing, not torque sensing
- Connection between battery and motor will require soldering
- Changing the connector will NOT invalidate your warranty
- Replacement cable brake levers with motor cutouts (Hydraulic cutout sensors optional extra)
- Bafang thumb throttle (may be used on both sides)

Can I fit this myself?
Connection between battery and motor will require soldering. These motors are supplied with bullet connectors and our batteries are supplied with XT90 connectors, you will receive the corresponding XT90 connector with your battery. Changing the connector will NOT invalidate your warranty.
If you require tools to take off your bottom bracket, pedal cranks and maybe split your chain, follow this link to purchase all of the tools. You will also require a fitting wrench which you can add as an option (above).
Will the Bafang 500W 36V BBS02B Mid Drive Motor Kit fit my bike?
This motor is designed to fit bikes with a bottom bracket of between 67mm and 73mm. The inner diameter of the bottom bracket should be 33.5mm. Most modern bikes sold in the UK meet this standard (but please check). We have a bottom bracket guide here.
What are the (optional) gear sensor and hydraulic brake cutouts for?
The gear sensor helps achieve smoother gear changes by pausing the motor during shifts. The kit includes brake levers for cable brakes, but with hydraulic brakes or integrated gear-brake units, you need to attach brake sensors. These sensors stop the motor when braking to prevent conflict with the brakes.
